Photographing Anglesey

Anglesey is an island off the north-west coast of Wales, characterised by an extensive coastline of sandy beaches, rocky headlands, tidal channels and sheltered bays. Surrounded by the Irish Sea, its landscape is closely shaped by maritime influences, creating a strong relationship between land, water and weather.

Open horizons, coastal light and changing tidal conditions contribute significantly to the character of the island. Historic settlements, lighthouses and exposed stretches of shoreline form recurring features across a landscape that is both varied and distinctly coastal.
