Photographing Scotland

Scotland is characterised by a diverse landscape of mountains, glens, lochs, forests and rugged coastlines. From the uplands of the Cairngorms and Highlands to the coastal environments of the western islands, the landscape is shaped by geology, water and a long history of natural change.

Large areas of open terrain create a strong sense of scale and remoteness, while lochs, river systems and coastal inlets form recurring features throughout the country. Mountain weather, shifting cloud and seasonal variations contribute significantly to the character of the landscape.
