Photographing Burnham-on-Sea

Burnham-on-Sea is a coastal town on the Somerset shoreline, shaped by its position beside the Bristol Channel. The town’s landscape is defined by a wide sandy beach, tidal waters and an open coastal setting, with the distinctive low-lying character of the surrounding coastline.

Originally a fishing settlement, Burnham developed as a seaside resort from the eighteenth century onwards. The relationship between shoreline, harbour and historic townscape reflects the changing role of the coast over time.
