Île-de-France is the region surrounding Paris in northern France, characterised by a landscape of historic towns, agricultural plains, forests and formal parklands. While the capital dominates the region’s identity, the wider landscape reflects centuries of settlement, land use and cultural development.

Grand estates, gardens and historic architecture are recurring features throughout the region, where urban and rural environments exist in close proximity. The contrast between dense cityscapes and the surrounding countryside contributes to its distinctive character.
