Whitby Harbour East Lighthouse

Warm morning light breaks through storm clouds above the North Sea, illuminating Whitby Harbour East Lighthouse and the harbour walls below.

The lighthouse stands at the entrance to Whitby Harbour, where it continues to guide vessels through the narrow channel between the piers. The dramatic sky emphasises the changing conditions often experienced along the Yorkshire coast.

Photographer's notes

A blended exposure combining a 1/100-second exposure for the sky with a 30-second ND-filtered exposure to smooth the water. The two images were combined to retain detail in the sunrise sky while capturing the movement of the harbour below.
