Dartmoor Coppice

An atmospheric haze softens the depths of this densely vegetated woodland on the western fringes of Dartmoor National Park. These sheltered Devon valleys protect rare fragments of ancient Atlantic oak rainforest, where high humidity allows native ferns and mosses to thrive. Here, a simple footbridge crosses a narrow, slow-moving stream, capturing the quiet, enclosed character of the moorland’s traditionally managed coppices.
