Great Joy

Glyder Fawr, ,

The first light of day illuminates the rugged slopes of Glyder Fawr in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.

The mountain is known for its extensive rock formations and steep scree-covered terrain, which give the landscape its distinctive character. This dawn view captures the dramatic topography of the Glyderau range before the surrounding mountains become busy with walkers.

Photographer's notes

The title “Great Joy” references a piece of walking folklore suggesting that Glyder Fawr translates as “Great Joy”. In reality, the name means “Great Ridge”, referring to the mountain’s fractured summit landscape. The name felt appropriate in the stillness of dawn as first light illuminated the peaks.
