Tintagel Island

Tintagel ,

This view looks across the rugged north coast of Cornwall towards Tintagel Island, with the bridges connecting it to the mainland visible above the cliffs.

The island is home to the remains of Tintagel Castle, a medieval stronghold built in the 13th century by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. The dramatic setting has long been associated with the legend of King Arthur, and the site became particularly prominent in medieval literature as the supposed birthplace of the legendary king.
