Glen Badenoch lies within the ancient landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, shaped over millions of years by the movement of glaciers, rivers and weather. The broad glen follows the River Spey and is surrounded by mountains formed from some of Scotland’s oldest rocks, giving the area its distinctive combination of rounded hills, steep-sided valleys and extensive forests.
During a cloud inversion, the lower parts of the glen can disappear beneath a blanket of cloud, leaving the mountains and higher ground rising above it and revealing the underlying shape of this ancient landscape.
