We were driving through downtown Calgary, heading to a nearby hill to catch the sunset, but we were running late. As we crossed Bow River, the sky suddenly transformed. In an instant, the clouds ignited with reds and oranges that made the air feel almost magical. We parked as quickly as we could and ran back to the bridge, camera ready, hoping the moment would last.
Below us, the river was alive with waterbirds, while the city skyline burned behind them. It was one of those rare moments when everything aligns: light, place, timing—and a generous dose of luck. By the time we got back into the car, the colours were already fading, leaving only the memory, and this photograph.
