Blagaj Tekija

Nestled at the base of a towering 200-metre limestone cliff near Mostar, the Blagaj Tekija is a remarkably preserved sixteenth-century Dervish monastery. The building’s traditional timber and stone architecture was deliberately designed to harmonise with the sheer scale of the canyon walls, reflecting the Sufi tradition of seeking spiritual peace within nature.

The karst spring of the Buna River emerges directly from a cavern at the foot of the rock face, spilling over a wide, shallow weir in the foreground. This layout creates a serene setting where the architecture appears directly integrated into the local river ecosystem.
