Fast flowing river descends from mountains and through woodland before crashing through a curvy and rocky canyon.

Mistaya Canyon is located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, near the Icefields Parkway.

The Mistaya River moves through a narrow limestone gorge, shaping a series of smooth, curved rock walls within the canyon. From the viewing bridge, the river sits below the level of the surrounding landscape, and the movement of water through the rock becomes the central focus of the scene.

Photographer's notes

The canyon was busy with other people when I visited during my trip. I therefore needed to be patient before I could take the shot I wanted. I took the time to enjoy the views and the sounds of the water crashing the canyon. Eventually most of the other visitors left and I was able to capture this shot.
