See insects as you have never seen them before! Dr Adrian Smith has filmed a variety of insects taking off and flying for a captivating video he recently posted on YouTube. What is special about Smith’s video is that it is has been recorded at 3,200 frames-per-second. This is significantly faster than the 24 frames-per-second used for most videos. Smith has slowed this footage down so we can see the insects’ acrobatics in incredible detail.
Smith has created the videos for his personal interest, rather than for research purposes, but they still give us an wonderful photographic insight into the world of flying insects. After all, insects are, as Smith puts it, the most successful flyers on the planet. Smith also has more insect related videos on his YouTube channel, Ant Lab.
