Thunderous waterfall cascading over a cliff in Canadian forest.

Athabasca Falls

Athabasca Falls is a waterfall located in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, near the Icefields Parkway.

The Athabasca River drops into a narrow limestone gorge, where a high volume of water is forced through a confined channel, creating a powerful cascade. Despite its relatively modest height, the falls are known for the intensity of flow and the way water continuously surges through the gorge year-round.

Notes

I visited the falls just before sunset. I was taken with the way the low, golden sunlight shone through the mists being generated by the falls, and attempted to capture it with this shot.
